KAPAArts wanted to raise awareness of the plight of green turtles, severely impacted by plastic and other pollution. In a world so dependant on plastic, what would make us take notice and re-think something that is a regular part of our lives? Make people stop for a moment, slow down, and see without seeing.
Do you see the green turtle? Focus on the image of the turtle in its surroundings. After 15 seconds, close your eyes. Do you see the turtle floating in front of you making its way home in the murky waters? With “Persistence of Vision” problems that have been ignored appear deep in one’s mind. Contrasting colours serve to highlight the inconsistency of the imagery. The second take will also bring about the focus of one’s attention on the image.
When looking away and closing one’s eyes, the image of the turtle will appear in one’s mind eye. Only, the image of the turtle will be one where the turtle is green and it is swimming in red, symbolizing death surrounds it as it tries to go home.
